Femina Hip: creating bright futures for young Tanzanians

This September and October, during the 2015 elections in Tanzania, youth organisation and friend of Little Sun, Femina Hip, has been busy staging Femina Peace Festivals in Folk Development Colleges throughout six regions of the country (Iringa, Shinyanga, Kigoma, Mtwara, Mbeya and Arusha).

Thanks to Little Sun partner, Strategic Energy, Little Sun lamps lit up these events which included football tournaments, talent shows and cinema nights. Femina itself also provided Little Sun lamps for the beautiful award ceremonies.

Femina Hip is a multimedia platform and social initiative reaching young people across Tanzania with critical knowledge: creating confident, competent change-makers who are active in Tanzania’s future development. Since 1999, Femina Hip’s aim has been to promote healthy lifestyles, sexual health, HIV and AIDS prevention, gender equality and citizen engagement.

Over the next few years, the organisation will also focus on economic empowerment with a focus on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and livelihoods in agriculture and tourism/ wildlife. Their concerns are of course very much aligned with Little Sun’s.

For over six years, Femina Hip has been promoting solar lights to increase reading hours for students and their families across Tanzania. In the past they have conducted school campaigns and also encouraged youth to become solar entrepreneurs – enabling them to make a business out distributing solar lamps and dramatically changing their futures.

Thanks Femina Hip for shining the Little Sun light throughout Tanzania – and for making such a huge impact!
