Pop-up shop in Reykjavik

For one month, a Little Sun Pop-Up Shop came to Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavik! The concept of bringing a Little Sun Pop-Up Shop to Iceland originated with i8 Gallery Director Börkur Arnarson, who represents Little Sun Founder and Artist Olafur Eliasson in Iceland.

The temporary Little Sun Pop-Up Shop (open 1 August–1 September 2014) was situated in a unique location with a long local history: a small, hexagonal, timber building called the Söluturninn, built in 1907. Utilised over the years as a mobile kiosk to sell small trinkets and everyday goods, the Söluturninn was relocated several times during the past century before being returned to its original location in Lækjartorg, where it sold Little Sun solar lamps.

Coinciding with the opening of the Pop-Up Shop was the launch of the #MyLittleSun Contest. Open to everyone around the world (not only in Iceland), the contest invites you to make a video in which you shine the light of your Little Sun lamp on something you love, and then upload your video to Vine or Instagram using the hashtag #MyLittleSun. The top 5 videos with the most likes will win a great prize – a Little Sun tote bag filled with a Little Sun t-shirt, pen, and solar lamp!

Contest closed 30 September 2014.
